More than a third of adults in Britain will soon own a tablet computer, according to a new survey.
Currently 12 million adults currently own a tablet device and seven per cent more say they plan to buy one before March.
According to the YouGov survey of 2,055 adults:
- Most new tablets were bought as a Christmas gift but almost 800,000 adults bought one for themselves or for the family
- Of those received as a gift, the Kindle Fire was the most popular, at 35 per cent,
- Next popular was the iPad, at 24 per cent followed by the Samsung Galaxy, at 12 per cent.
- Sixty per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds said they would use the devices to read more news.
The survey, which was commissioned by Newsworks, formerly the Newspaper Marketing Agency, also found tablets were equally popular among both men and women, with women edging it slightly, accounting for 52 per cent of owners.
