Watch Us Blow Up A Brand New iPad Air In Our Explosive Launch

exploding an iPad airIt seems strange but the first thing we wanted to do with our brand new iPad Air was to take it to a large expanse of open land and blow it up.

Our logic, if logic is the right word, was to see how the iPad Air would survive if we actually launched it into the air.

The first idea we had was to see if we could strap it to a huge firework, set the fuse alight, retreat to a safe distance and observe the results.

We actually found a fireworks expert from Pyrotex Fireworx but he kind of laughed at that idea and then went on to reel off a huge list of reasons why it wouldn’t work.

That could have been the end of the matter but thankfully it wasn’t.

We were told that suspending it inside a mortar tube above a charge of high explosives might work.

The fear was that the explosive would simply blow the iPad into a million pieces but we wanted to see if it was possible to actually get the device into the air.

Live tests with a series of dummy iPads, non working models of exactly the same size and weight, showed that it was possible so we handed our brand new iPad over to the experts at Pyrotex and let them work their magic.

The guys were using so much explosives that it was enough to kill anyone who got too close so we had to set up our equipment and stand well back while the explosives were detonated.

We found that we were able to launch the device into the air…and when it came back to earth it was badly damaged but still in one piece…and, most amazingly of all, it still worked.

Yes we could actually switch it on and swipe the screen to move between icons.

However the battery was leaking badly and with the damage it had sustained to its internal parts, the iPad Air was not really in any sort of usable condition.

Next we decided to see how well it would cope with an explosion at ground level without the mortar tube so we bedded the explosives and the iPad into a nearby mound of sheep droppings wired it up to our electronic detonator.

All of us agreed that this time the device would be shattered into a thousand tiny fragments and we were preparing to draw straws to see who would have to clean up the mess afterwards.

The resulting explosion was by far the prettiest of the day…but this hardy aluminium and glass device remained in one piece.

It would no longer switch on and it was bent badly out of shape by the force of the explosion but we only had one piece to pick up and carry home which shocked us all.
